The Red Leg Partridge, originally introduced from Europe, is now more common than our native English Partridge. Smaller and juicier than a pheasant, each partridge serves one, making a brace perfect for a romantic meal for two.
We offer the whole partridge either oven-ready or untouched (in feather) for those who prefer to pluck their own or require them as nature intended, such as for photography (to learn more about buying game in feather, click here).
Traditionally, lead shot is standard for shooting game birds like partridge. However, as the British game sector transitions towards more sustainable ammunition, we’re pleased to offer an Eco-friendly (typically steel shot) option alongside the standard choice. To learn more about lead shot safety, click here. While steel shot is far more Eco-friendly, it can be harder on our teeth than lead, which is a relatively soft metal. So please bear this in mind when ordering the Eco-friendly option.
Cooking couldn’t be easier. Cover with fatty bacon, roast in a hot oven (180ºC) for 20 minutes and leave to rest in a warm place for 10 minutes before serving.
