These chickens are truly free range and produce a dense succulent meat, delicious juices and irresistibly crispy skin. They are grown in small batches, so occasionally stock is limited.
Three weight ranges are available, starting from small 1.5kg going up to 2.6 kg. The small birds make an ideal quick mid week roast for two people whereas the bigger birds are perfect for larger gatherings and Sunday roasts. These chickens also make great stock after your roast. The bigger weight ranges can feed 7 people.
The Sutton Hoo chicken’s combination of an environmentally friendly habitat, varied diet and naturally slower maturing breed, results in a chicken with a wonderful texture and a delicious full flavour. More age equals strong bones and more flavour, so enjoy chicken like it used to taste. You will notice how strong the bones are compared to supermarket chickens.
Slice a lemon halfway through lengthways. Insert a sprig of thyme into the slit and place the lemon inside the cavity of the chicken.
